Newcastleton
The now peaceful and unspoilt countryside of Newcastleton, or Copshaw Holm to the locals, belies a turbulent history of inter-family feud and international warfare. Explore both at the Liddesdale Heritage Centre & Musuem, and by walking the Reiver Trails or in The Footsteps of the Reivers walking festival. Once guardhouse to the bloodiest valley in Britain, the might and malice Hermitage Castle awes us now as ever it did the lawless Border Reiver 500 years ago.
Newcastleton hosts a traditional music festival annually and is thought to be one of the longest continuously running music festivals in Scotland, running since 1969. In 2014, the event is running from the 4-6th July.
Newcastleton is home to the second of the two 7stanes trails in the Borders, offering some of the best mountain biking in Scotland.
